AGING
(A humorous look at growing old)
When I was young and in my prime,
Still "wet behind the ears",
I gave no thought to a coming time,
When I would bear the weight of years.
For I was young and so alive,
So arrogant and bold,
To me folks who were thirty-five,
Were very, very, old.
I thought not of tomorrow,
Just lived for every day,
From the future would not borrow,
Let the chips fall where they may.
I was footloose and fancy free,
Built castles in the air,
"Now" was as far as I could see,
I didn't have a care.
But time so quickly turned each page,
That it took me by surprise,
And soon I reached that "ripe old age",
You guessed it! .... THIRTY-FIVE.
The years did come, the years did go,
And soon my youth was spent,
I looked for my "get up and go",
But it "got up and went".
My "forties" soon came on a pace,
And kind of "settled in".
With wrinkles visiting my face,
Near my "dimpled" double chin.
Then the "itis" boys made an offer,
And paid a call on me,
"Sinus", "Burs" and then "Old Arther",
The worse one of the three.
The "fifties" were the next to call,
They sat down by my side,
This "aging thing" I couldn't stall,
No matter how I tried.
And now I'm in my "sixties",
With grandkids at my feet,
Those precious "little pixies"
So innocent and sweet.
I wouldn't trade a minute,
Or alter any page,
I've had a lot of fun within it,
My life at any age.
As I look back o'er all these years,
I know that I will find,
That aging gives no cause for tears,
It's just "a state of mind".

(An Invitation)
I hear there's going to be a party,
Up old Albuquerque way,
So you better not be "tardy",
And you better not delay.
If you have an inclination,
That you really want to go,
You should make your reservation,
And you shouldn't make it slow.
Or you'll miss out on the "funnin",
And the "reminicsin" time,
When those ladies start to "comein",
All those gals of fifty-nine.
They will burn the "midnight oil",
They'll renew old memories,
Hearts and minds will be "a swirl",
Like the rustling of the leaves.
And I know there will be laughter,
And perhaps a "glistening" tear,
Hearts will beat a little faster,
For those friends, no longer here.
I have heard some guys will be there,
For they just can't stay away,
But, "fellas" try to be fair,
Let the ladies have their day.
I hear there's going to be a party,
In old Albuquerque town,
If you don't want to be "tardy",
Then you better mark it down.
You should make your reservation,
And save up your hard-earned cash,
To join in the celebration,
At the "60TH BIRTHDAY BASH".

When the storms of your life are beginning to blow,
And the treacherous shoals are starting to form,
There's a calm, sweet assurance for you just to know,
There are "steadying anchors" in the midst of the
storm.
When you've toiled all night in the loud howling gale,
And your strength and resolve are beginning to sway,
Cast out these strong anchors that never will fail,
And hold on to the dawning of a bright, brand new day.
The first anchor to use is the anchor of prayer,
Just go to the Father, He sees your deep plight,
In life's darkest storms He will always be there,
To stand right beside you through the long stormy
night.
The second anchor to use is the anchor of praise,
Just lift up and magnify His great Holy name,
This will lift you above the angry dark waves,
Give you light in the darkness and sunshine for rain.
The third anchor to use is the anchor of promise,
He said it, believe it, His Word will not fail.
Just trust Him, obey Him, be no "doubting thomas",
In the fiercest of storms His truth will prevail.
The last anchor to use is the anchor of passion,
The love and support of your family and friends,
Who bear you to God in "arms of compassion",
Whose care and concern for you never ends.
If on your horizon a great storm is "brewin"
And you are not sure of the "set of your sail",
If you think you are headed for shipwreck and ruin,
These anchors will hold you within any vale.
