          WHY AM I SO BLESSED?

"You may ask me for anything
in my name and I will do it."
          John 14:14 (NIV)

WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, a question
          that I ponder every day.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, a wondrous
thought that fills me when I pray.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, God grant me
          His compassion so I may,
Bless kindred souls who struggle on their way.

WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, this glorious
truth is plain for me to see.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, that by
"Amazing Grace" He set me free.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, remind me
Lord so I will always be,
A blessing to each one who looks to me.

WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, this question
still persists for who am I?
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, that on a
sinner's cross for me He'd die.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, Lord touch me
          once again so my reply,
Will bless and wipe away a tear dimmed eye.

WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, perhaps I will
          not know till heaven's shore.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, that God
adorns my life with gifts from His great store.
WHY AM I SO BLESSED?, that from His
boundless love He gives me more,
That I, in turn, can bless the helpless and the poor.

God's blessings are not just for ourselves alone.
He blesses us so we can make His love
          so clearly known.
So touch and lead some troubled soul
          to mercy's throne.
So God's blessing in that life can then be shown.

          WHAT ARE YOU INVESTING?
          (Matt. 14:13-21)

A story I've heard from God's written word
Of a boy with two little fishes.
And so it is said, out of five loaves of bread
Jesus made a meal so very delicious.

          It was such meager fare,
what the lad had to share,
From his little sack lunch that day.
You would never have guessed it
but Jesus took it and blessed it.
And fed five thousand souls on the way.

His disciples so true didn't know what to do,
And they asked Him to send them away.
But Christ didn't heed them, instead He said "feed them".
A test of their faith to display.

They told Him the "vittles" amounted to little,
But Jesus said, "Bring them to me".
As He prayed He would take them and
          then He would break them.
A miracle then they would see.

In that very same hour, God would display His power,
As Jesus, lovingly, met every need.
And I have a hunch when the lad shared his lunch,
          He invested this miracle's seed.

And I must confess that God will lavishly bless,
          From His abundantly, wonderful store.
If we open the door He will give so much more,
Than we could imagine or guess.

God will give of His treasure in far greater measure,
Than the little we trust to His hand.
But if we invest it, we will find He has blessed it,
And will give it back to us again.

So in life's crucial testing, what are you investing?
Are you, sparingly, sowing the seed?
Or are you lavishly giving with joy and thanksgiving,
If you are God will meet every need.

As we give, we are given from God's riches in heaven,
A life so abundant and "cool".
So no longer delay, invest wisely today,
Your return could be "twelve baskets full".

          LET'S NOT SOON FORGET

          Terror rained from peaceful skies,
          Just one year ago today.
Mid smoke and fire and chilling cries,
          Many dreams in ashes lay.

          Our nation watched in disbelief,
          As this carnage quickly fell.
Causing so much sorrow, fear and grief,
And pain beyond our words to tell.

Our country is a land so blessed,
The hope of all within her gates.
A respite for the souls oppressed,
A harbor from such cruel hate.

But now we know we weren't secure,
          From tyrany's destructive hand.
          It's devastating toll was sure,
A pall was cast upon our land.

But from the rubble of this deed,
A fresh new breath of freedom rose.
It's lessons we would surely heed,
As the wind of patriotism blows.

Time and events march swiftly on,
And oft the images soon fade.
The fervor we first had is gone.
We soon forget the price we paid.

Let's not forget the victims lost,
          The sacrifice that many gave.
They paid the price that freedom cost,
These countless men and women brave.

          Our differences let's lay aside,
We owe these folks a grateful debt.
May none of them, in vain, have died,
May none of us so soon forget.

          APATHY

          While others languish in despair,
          Engulfed in want and poverty.
Forgive me, Lord, when I don't care,
          Release me from my apathy.

When in their plight I hear their cry,
          Souls in woe and misery.
How could I stand so idly by?
          Complacent in my apathy.

Lord, in my life, I've been so blessed,
By all the things you've done for me.
While others, Lord, are sore distressed,
          Lord, please forgive my apathy.

Our nation, Lord, you have endowed,
Your guiding hand has kept us free.
          While others face oppression's cloud,
          Remove from us our apathy.

Lord, you have loved us all so much,
You bought our souls at Calvary.
So all may know your saving touch,
Please free your Church from apathy.
